fence outside Juniper Village this year. The yellow ribbons have held special meaning in our US military for over Four Centuries. Yellow is the official color of the armor branch of the U.S. Army and has grown in popularity through the 1979 Iran Hostage Crisis to the 90's in the Gulf War to Desert Storm and most recently the Invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq. Whatever your political views or your memory attached to your yellow ribbon, we at Juniper Village, honor our military families throughout the year and continue to support our extended Juniper Families. Most of our Residents and Associates have families that have or are currently serving in our U.S. Military. Our most senior resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, recalls in her lifetime, living through WWI, WWII, the Korean War, and all wars to present day..."Anyone serving in our US Military should be honored!"
This Memorial Day, Juniper Village honored our Residents who served in our US Military with the assistance of State Representative Brad Roae and our Local VFW Post 2006 Color Guard. Please take a moment of silence with us to honor those brave soldiers who have paid the ultimate price, as "freedom is not free."

Juniper Village was host to over 225 Family, Friends and Residents at our Annual Friends and Family Picnic! The preparations began in the early evening of Friday night, as the pig was slowly roasted overnight to perfection! The morning was full of Associates and Volunteers making the final preparations as guests flooded in with their delicious desserts in hand. Chef Erin expertly carved the pig and delivered a culinary selection of traditional picnic foods and various summer salads. 
The musical entertainment provided hours of delightful tunes. As the afternoon progressed, the winners of the gift baskets for the raffle were called out. The picnic raffle raised $265 for the Retired and Senior Volunteer Programs annual Volunteer Dinner. The weather couldn't have been more pleasant...warm with a nice breeze. The Jungle theme was a hit as folks stood and captured a funny moment behind the Jane and Tarzan poster. As we celebrate friendship month, we were fortunate to have our Friends and Family present for this bountiful picnic celebration. A special thank you to our friends at Allegheny College for lending the tables and chairs. Allegheny never misses an opportunity to support our Juniper Community, whether it be the tables or the Student Volunteers they provide throughout the year! Thank you all for sharing your time with us and we look forward to seeing you all for our Classic Car Cruise on October 2nd! Mark your calendars from 1-4 pm.
