Gizmos and Gadgets!

Jeannette Zaykowski from Great Lakes Home Healthcare Services presented on Gizmos and Gadgets recently at Juniper Village. Products ranged from small weighted silverware, grabbers, sponges, canes and support socks to other personal products supporting a residents dignity while striving to remain independent.  Jeannette is pictured holding up a different type of "support."  The Pink Scarf represents support of Breast Cancer Awareness, and is one of many products available from Great Lakes.  Lifelong learning, social connections and continued support of an independent lifestyle in our homelike environment are all focuses for Juniper Village.  Stop by today to learn how Senior Living may benefit you.

E.B. White's Birthday Celebration!

On Wednesday, July 11th there was a special celebration of E.B. White's birthday with a Charlotte's Web party. The children from Seton

Catholic School summer camp joined up with Residents of Juniper Village in the courtyard for a fun filled time. The meaning of friendship was discussed followed by a brief synopses of the book. Then there was cake! The children and residents celebrated with a cake and pink lemonade and played their own version of "freeze tag" entitled spiders and pigs. Helen Peterson was a spider trying to hug her piglets! Delicious lettuce was sampled from the garden at Juniper Village. The fun continued with a creative game where residents shared bits of their lives with the children. Giggles were heard throughout the crowd when the children tried to guess how long the Crabtree's have been married. One girl guessed 90! June said: "it only feels that way sometimes."

Red Hat Luncheon

Residents at Juniper Village enjoyed an outing to Cracker Barrel for their monthly Red Hat Luncheon!  What is it about Cracker Barrel that intrigues so many people?  Is is the home cookin? Is it the atmosphere? Is it the SHOPPING? I would say, based on the ladies smiles, it's all that and the joy of being together!  The Red Hat Ladies are always accepting newcomers to the group!  If you know someone who would like to join, please don't hesistate to call Pam Mitchell, Connections Director to inquire!  333-4400.

GFWC Meadville Woman's Club Garden Division Donation!

The GFWC Meadville Woman's Club Garden Division thoughtfully donated $300 towards the Resident Garden Project! The Club has donated monies in the past towards this community project that was initially designed by a student of Allegheny College. The Woman's Club has kept the garden beautiful with their donations and this years donation will allow us to build an additional raised garden bed and fill it with beautiful foliage. A plaque will also be added to recognize this gift

from our friends. We thank the Women of the Club for their ongoing support! Our gardens enable our residents who still want to feel connected with the environment and nature to feel fulfilled.

Norma McClay is an expert photographer, in our eyes! She photographs butterflies in all their beauty. Norma has donated a butterfly photograph to Juniper Village. The photograph features TWO butterflies! We all agree what talent it takes to capture not only one, but two beautiful creatures at once! Thank you for this special gift.

Fishing Derby Winner!

If Spring is turning out to be this much fun, we can't wait to see what Summer brings! Residents of Juniper Village at Meadville Senior Living trekked to Mitchell's Pond to participate in the Fishing Derby! Sharlene Peterson was a REEL sport, as she modestly showed off her trophy for biggest catch of the day! She is new at the sport, but if

you ask Frank Buyan how he feels about fishing, he would probably say he only fishes on days that end in "Y". Frank and his family and friends would travel to Canada each year to fish as a tradition!

Sharlene's fish measured in at almost 15 inches! Paul Marsh holds up his fish in comparison, wondering if he could ever be so lucky on this day to catch a bigger fish! Paul Reese has lured some big fish in his day as well, but he was still caught smiling over at Sharlene's success, as this was her first time ever fishing! The gang had a great time at the pond together!

The day was arranged by the local area Activity Director's group. Juniper Village, Wesbury, Cambridge Springs Rehab, Quality Living Center and Crawford County Care Center all battled for the big trophy, and our proud Sharlene came out on top! Congrats!

 

Veteran's Ceremony

Legion Post 615 honored more than a dozen Veteran's last Saturday. Jennifer Musone, Executive Director states "What an honor to spend my Saturday evening honoring some of our Veterans from Juniper. My husband is an active member of American Legion Post 615. His ties have allowed me to really understand and get to know how wonderful these Veterans are and how they really fought for our country." Stanley Urban and Russ Ingols were two of the Veterans honored that day. The
gentleman currently reside at Juniper Village and remain an active
part in the greater community. Stan has served as a member of Post 615 for 50 years, and Russ has served for 66 years. Post 615 has graciously agreed to initiate a round table program at Juniper Village for our Veterans. Juniper Village is home to approximately 30 Veterans. We welcome the community in for our extended programming! Please look for the date and time in our next newsletter.

A Day for Dad

Driving by the front lawn at Juniper, you couldn't help but notice the family fun happening! To start off the day, friendly games of corn hole were enjoyed by families and residents. We served over 110 people sirloin burgers from Livingston's Quality Meats, Sweet Italian Sausage, tortellini salad, baked beans and cole slaw. For dessert we had homemade strawberry shortcake. Polka music was provided by the Happy Music Trio. The weather was perfect, the food was delicious, and even the neighbors enjoyed the music. This was even more fun than we anticipated! In true Juniper fashion, the gentlemen and their families enjoyed the special attention taken to make this day a special day dedicated to dads!

If you are attending our Friends and Family dinner  event this Thursday, you are in for a special treat! Our very own Chef Erin Gredler is presenting on Summer Sanitation and Safety, and I hear she has a cute little give away for those who come to her presentation at 5:30pm, this Thursday, June 14th.  Dinner is at 4:30pm and RSVPs can be made by calling 333-4400.
