Artistic Expression

The Residents of Juniper Village at Meadville spent time recently creating some beautiful bags. There was no shortage on color and companionship. The ladies were quick to join this environmentally focused activity so that when they go shopping, they will have a fancy reusable bag to place their new treasures in!

Annual Friends and Family Picnic

Juniper Village was host to over 225 Family, Friends and Residents at our Annual Friends and Family Picnic!  The preparations began in the early evening of Friday night, as the pig was slowly roasted overnight to perfection!  The morning was full of Associates and Volunteers making the final preparations as guests flooded in with their delicious desserts in hand.  Chef Erin expertly carved the pig and delivered a culinary selection of traditional picnic foods and various summer salads.

The musical entertainment provided hours of delightful tunes.  As the afternoon progressed, the winners of the gift baskets for the raffle were called out.  The picnic raffle raised $265 for the Retired and Senior Volunteer Programs annual Volunteer Dinner.  The weather couldn't have been more pleasant...warm with a nice breeze.  The Jungle theme was a hit as folks stood and captured a funny moment behind the Jane and Tarzan poster.  As we celebrate friendship month, we were fortunate to have our Friends and Family present for this bountiful picnic celebration.  A special thank you to our friends at Allegheny College for lending the tables and chairs.  Allegheny never misses an opportunity to support our Juniper Community, whether it be the tables or the Student Volunteers they provide throughout the year!  Thank you all for sharing your time with us and we look forward to seeing you all for our Classic Car Cruise on October 2nd!  Mark your calendars from 1-4 pm.

Strawberry Festival

Last weekend, Juniper Village celebrated with their annual Strawberry festival, in which nearly 160 Strawberry shortcake desserts were served!   The weather started out with a quick sprinkle which seemed to us to cool us all down...if only for a few moments!  Families, Residents and even our local neighbors stopped in to enjoy the festivities.  A special thank you to the Mizner Family for supporting our local events and community, it's always great to see the neighbors out and about. Joe and Becky Matzcak played traditional polka favorites and it wasn't long before the crowd started shouting out their favorites upon request!  We all look forward to the Matzcak's return during Octoberfest!

Community Connections!

Juniper Village at Meadville raised $200 at the bake sale this month to benefit the American Red Cross. Talk about some tasty dough...these rolls went to highest bidder for $100!  WOW!
The bake sale is just one way that Juniper is staying connected to our greater Meadville community.  Join us for our next community event on August 4th at 1pm to learn about our ever changing environment when WJET TV 24s Meteorologist Tom Atkins will be in to discuss how the weather is affecting our Environment.

Juniper Village at Meadville has been blogging since August of 2009.  We did not realize at the time, but this blog posting turned out to be our 100th posting including the $100 rolls!  Now that is sweet!

A Day on the Farm

Juniper Village had a day on the farm with Granny's Ark petting zoo from Waterford!  They came in to visit with some of their furry and not so furry friends. Some of the creatures they brought included a 9 wk old baby calf, a miniature pony, some baby ducks, geese and rabbits as well as a 25 yr old tortoise. Both the residents and the preschool class of the YMCA enjoyed the activity.

As we focused this quarter on "Letting Wellbeing Thrive", we discovered that spending time with our friendly farm animals was a truly nurturing, "back to basics" type of event for many of our Residents who hail from the beautiful farmlands of Northwestern PA.  For those "City Folk", it proved to be just as rewarding in an adventurous type of way!   We hope to see you all at our Friends and Family Annual Picnic on August 20th from 11:30am to 3pm!  It is a safari themed event and there will be a Giraffe T-Shirt give away you won't want to miss.

Tortoise makes a graceful exit down our family friendly ramp!
