Live in Wellness: June Events

The month of June is named after the Roman goddess of marriage, Juno. It is no wonder that so many weddings occur during the month of June. As is such, Juniper Communities will be reminiscing about and celebrating weddings throughout the month. June is also the month with the longest daytime hours of the year in the northern hemisphere. Make the best of the extended days by celebrating wellness!

Can the choices you make really affect your health and wellness? Absolutely! Cancer, heart disease, lung disease, stroke and injury, the major causes of death and health problems, can all be prevented by choosing a healthy lifestyle. Simple changes like choosing not to smoke, seeing your doctor regularly, maintaining a healthy diet, exercising and getting enough sleep all contribute to longer life.

This month we finish our quarterly Alive In All Seasons theme of “Let Wellbeing Thrive” by engaging in activities focused on food and nutrition. Look for our consistently health snack and juice options at our hydration stations and dietitian presentations. Our H’Art and Soul of Dining Program will also be showcased as we implement the addition of more regional favorites – focusing on fresh and scratch made, our signature soups and muffin of the day as well as the new grill menu.

Our fabulous activity offerings this month include our Summer Juniper Jinglers’ Bell Ringing Concert on June 12th at 4:30 pm; our Dueling Chefs food cook-off on June 17th at 6:00 pm; our Dine and Dash Tours and Take Out event on June 18th from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm; our Couples Community Card Party on June 25th at 6:00 pm; and our Lunch and Learn on plant-based sustainable foods on June 27th at noon. Join us this month as we Live in Wellness.

Wellness at Its Best!

Juniper Village at Meadville and SouthernCare Hospice hosted a 5K Fun Run for area nurses and their family members in honor of Nurses Week.  For the last three years, SouthernCare and Juniper Village have partnered to show area nurses our appreciation for the care and compassion they provide daily to those in need.   In May, at Juniper we celebrate Spring and our commitment to healthy aging and fitness.  This event went hand in hand with our message to "Grow Strong Daily" as we continue to promote overall wellness.

Come join us on May 30, 2014 for our Annual Fitness Fair at Juniper Village from 1pm-4pm and explore new and creative ways to make fitness fun!!!

National Police Week

National Police Week was held May 11-16, 2014.  On Friday the 16th of May, Juniper Village delivered treat bags to our very own Meadville City Police Department to thank them for their continued service.  Included in the bags were a Juniper water bottle, pens, snacks for on the go, bottled water and Gatorade.  The officers were very appreciative of the kind gesture.  They were even able to acquire a new recruit!!!  Pictured from left to right: Neil Falco, David Gredler, Eli Probo, and Brian Thompson.  New recruit in front is Ethan Gredler, son of our very own Executive Chef.

Mother's Day Tea

At Juniper at Meadville, we continue to honor our Mothers for their countless efforts and the continued nurturing they have given to us throughout the years.  This year our Mothers enjoyed a lovely Victorian Tea Party for Mother’s Day in our historical Allegheny Ballroom.  Our gorgeous antique ballroom was lavishly decorated with lace table clothes, over-sized pastel umbrellas, garden lanterns, and even fresh Victorian Rose centerpieces made by Cobblestone Cottage of Meadville.

It is always nice when you have the opportunity to give a special gift to those you love.  Sandy Bacasa surprised her mother with a special gift as she serenaded her mother and our other guests with an assortment of Contemporary Christian songs.  She ended her performance with “Wind Beneath My Wings” by Bette Midler and brought a tear to everyone’s eye as she dedicated this song to all the mothers in the room.
