Stand in Integrity: July Events

July is the month in which we celebrate our nation’s independence with fireworks, cook outs and by cherishing our own personal freedoms. Nelson Mandela reminds us “to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.” In that spirit join us as we honor those who “Stand in Integrity.”

Dr. Barbara Killinger, PhD, offers this definition of integrity: “Integrity is a personal choice, an uncompromising and predictably consistent commitment to honor moral, ethical, spiritual and artistic values and principles.” To “Stand in Integrity” does not mean that you are flawless or perfect, it means that you admit your shortcomings; you have influence, not because people like you, but because people trust you, believe you, and follow you.

We will also celebrate this month’s Alive in All Seasons theme of Volunteerism by volunteering our time to others, honoring those who volunteer with us, including our Resident Ambassadors; and learning more about volunteer opportunities in the greater community.

Our fabulous activity offerings this month include our Alive in All Seasons Dinner and Hospice Volunteer Presentation featuring a fabulous supper and a discussion on how you can make a positive impact on other’s lives through volunteering on July 10th at 5:45 pm; our Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast where we invite all of you who have volunteered with us to enjoy a tasty meal with a hearty side of gratitude on July 12th at 9:00 am; our Retired Senior Volunteer Program Lunch and Learn where you can dine on delicious fare while hearing about a great opportunity to socialize and share your skills with others on July 18th from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm; or our Community Volunteer Awards Recognition Wine and Cheese Reception where we will award several community members who have gone over and beyond in making people feel nurtured on July 23rd at 5:00 pm. Take a look at our calendar and join us for any and all activities that will help you make the most of these last few weeks of summer.

Cultivating Purpose

There are more to gardens than just plants and soil.  A therapeutic garden allows opportunity for renewed mental and physical growth.  Our Juniper Gardens allow our residents a space that is designed to meet their  physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs.  Our plant-filled environment gives our residents purpose.  It allows them to continue there cultivating journey as they transition into our home-like environment at Juniper Village.

Our gardens are nurtured daily by our residents.  As part of our Green Canopy program, our residents have the opportunity to enjoy their harvest as well as share with family and friends.  Come watch us bloom!

Camping Juniper Style!

The warm weather has finally arrived and the campfires are beginning to roar.  Every summer our Juniper residents look forward to weekly campfires outside.   If you enjoy s'mores, hot dogs, hobo pies, etc., this is an event you do not want to miss.  We may even include some good old campfire tunes to add some spice.

Resident, Katherine Hart states, "This is the best time I have had in ten years!"  Katherine roasted multiple marshmallows for her neighbors as she really enjoyed her time reminiscing about the good old days.  Who says you still cannot enjoy some good sticky fingers from time to time.

Watch your monthly calendar for our evening campfires (weather permitting).  All families and friends are welcome to join in for some fun!

Honor Thy Father!

Our Juniper Fathers' and their family members enjoyed an evening cookout on the back lawn to celebrate Father's Day weekend.  The smell of grilled Prime Rib filled the air and mouths were watering.  The full menu consisted of grilled prime rib, sweet potatoes with cinnamon butter, Cole slaw, and apple tarts with vanilla ice cream.  Although the weather was a little chilly for the end of June, this was a great night to enjoy with family, friends, and some fresh air.

"What a treat," stated Stanley Urban as he enjoyed seconds on his dessert.  Compliments to the chef and her Dietary Dept.  Also a big thanks to our Leadership Team for organizing this event.  We always look forward to a celebration!

A Day to Remember…

Memorial Day is a day we stop to remember those who fought and continue to fight for the freedom of our country.   Russ Ingols, resident of Juniper Village Senior Living Community and member of American Legion Post 615  paid his respect to his fellow comrades at his hometown of Conneautville, Pennsylvania Annual Memorial Day Service.

Executive Director, Jennifer Musone has been honored to share this experience with Russ who also is her " Best Friend"  at Juniper.  Jennifer and Russ are mutually connected to the Conneautville community.  Jennifer's husband and Russ both belong to the American Legion Post 615 and have actively supported this organization for many years.   Russ continues to stay connected to his hometown through his family and friends.  We thank Russ and all our Veterans for serving our country! They will never be forgotten.
